About

COVID-19 Information for Patients

When you visit your doctor, he or she is able to listen to the baby's heartbeat and count the number of beats per minute. If more information is needed, you may be asked to come for fetal monitoring, also called a non-stress test.

The pattern of a baby's heartbeat oftern reflects the baby's condition. This test provides an ongoing tracing of the heart rate and may also show the contractions you are experiencing. The certified nurse who performs your test will explain everything to you. She will evaluate the results and consult a physician if needed during your test. Your doctor will be contacted if necessary and further appointments may be booked depending on the reason for your referral and the individual results.

Appointments

Please bring your BC Care Card and Photo ID to your appointment.
We are a scent-free clinic - please do not use scented products such as cologne/perfume, lotions, hair products when you come to the clinic in order to protect those patients/staff who are sensitive to these.

Appointments usually take 45 minutes. Your test may be shorter or longer, depending on your baby's activiey at the time of the test.

If you have other appointments at the hospital, we will try and co-ordinate your visits. Your partner, or another person of your choosing is welcome to accompany you for your test. No special preparation is required and you may eat and drink as per your normal routine. If you are diabetic, you will want to have your snack with you.
