Wound Infection Service

We focus on caesarean section (C-section) infections. We are staffed by a Nurse Practitioner (NP) with referral to an Obstetrician as needed. Our goal is to see patients within one business day.

Who may use this service

Women who have delivered by C-section at BC
Women’s within the past 30 days


Women who have delivered by C-section at
any hospital within the past 30 days and have a baby in the Neonatal Intensive Care Nursery (NICU) at BC Women’s

Have any of the following:

• Discharge or liquid coming out of incision
• Incision that is opening up
• Redness or swelling
• Pain that is getting worse
• Fever (body temperature) less than 38°C or chills


To book an appointment please call us Monday - Friday 8:00am to 4:00pm at (604) 875-2396

Please call your maternity care provider directly or call the BC Women's Assessment Room at (604) 875-3070 to speak to a nurse if you have any of the following:

  • a fever greater than 38°C/100.4°F
  • problems such as severe pain or heavy bleeding
  • are worried about a C-section infection at night or on the weekend
