About the Sexual Assault Service

We are a specially trained team of female nurses, nurse examiners, doctors, and counsellors. Our service is free and confidential.  We provide comprehensive and sensitive medical care and emotional support to anyone, 13 or older, who has been sexually assaulted within the past 7 days.  We welcome women, men, and trans-gendered survivors of sexual assault, and are available 24 hours a day, every day of the year.  Residents and non-residents of BC (including visitors to Canada) can access our service.

We explain what we can offer; you decide what is best for you.
We know that whatever happened, it was not your fault.

Our service options include assessment and treatment of injuries, sexually transmitted infections, and pregnancy prevention, as well as forensic sample collection and a report for police (for those patients who want to involve police). We also can provide referrals to health, legal, and community-based support services.

In addition to patient care, we provide education and training to health care providers and others working in the area of sexual assault. Our curricula range from brief presentations to in-depth training programs. Training is offered throughout B.C.

We work closely with a wide range of government, non-government, and community-based organizations to provide services to people who have experienced a recent sexual assault, and to improve services across B.C.
