Nursing Week award winner: Tamera Stilwell

Tamera Stilweel is a nurse practitioner at BC Women's Hospital + Health Centre. She has been providing expert guidance at BC Women's for the past six years.

Tamera is one of six winners of the Nursing Week Awards, an annual award program to recognize excellence in nursing at BC Children’s Hospital and BC Women’s.

Tamera works in adult education and attributes her wide range of skills to being a lifelong learner at heart. Tamera spent many years in practice and, as an educator, she soaks up as much knowledge as she can from her students. She sees each of them as individuals and meets them where they’re able to absorb as much information as possible. Tamera is a humble mentor who believes it’s important to take a step back and look at the bigger picture to enhance quality of care. It’s this ability to spot and recalibrate educational needs that’s earned her the well-deserved respect within the Nurse Practitioner group. 

In celebration of the nursing family at PHSA, poet Julia Pileggi has collected some of their stories and used them as inspiration for a spoken word performance that touches on heart-warming and heartbreaking aspects of nursing.
