Maternal Fetal Medicine Clinic

The Maternal Fetal Medicine Clinic provides care to people with complicated pregnancies. Its specialized care is part of the Maternal Fetal Medicine Program.

The clinic treats individuals whose pregnancy involves risks. These might come from maternal health conditions, complicated medical history or concerns about the fetus. This clinic’s services include detailed prenatal evaluation and management by a dedicated team.

Referral information

To be seen at the clinic, you need a referral from a doctor, such as an obstetrician or a midwife. For referral information, visit the referral page.

Appointment details

When you come for an appointment, please bring your BC Care Card, a photo ID and a list of all current medications, vitamins and supplements you are taking.

The first visit lasts approximately one hour but may be longer if you have several tests to complete. Depending on your pregnancy, tests may include ultrasounds, fetal monitoring or other diagnostic procedures. The clinic will try to coordinate these with your visit.

After your visit, we will discuss follow-up plans with you, including tests, further visits or consultations. Follow-up visits are usually half an hour.

We are a scent-free clinic. Please do not use scented products such as cologne/perfume, lotions or hair products when you come to the clinic to protect those patients and staff who are sensitive to these.

BC Women’s Hospital is a provincial teaching centre, so there may be fellows and residents participating in your care.

If you need to cancel or reschedule, contact the clinic as soon as possible.
