Our clinic provides comprehensive maternity care for individuals who do not yet have provincial Medical Service Plan (MSP) coverage.
We accept applications from health care providers, community partners and individuals who need maternity care.
1Eligibility
Patients may qualify to receive services if:
- They are a government-assisted refugee and cannot access services in their community
- They are a privately sponsored refugee or have applied for refugee status and can demonstrate financial hardship
- They are in the process of spousal sponsorship and awaiting MSP coverage and can demonstrate financial hardship
- Other special circumstances as determined by BC Women's Hospital and can demonstrate financial hardship
Patients will not be eligible for care if:
- They are in Canada on a student work visa or a visitor visa
- They are in Canada on a worship visa
- They are in Canada on a work permit visa
- They are a landed immigrant within the 90-day waiting period for MSP coverage and cannot provide evidence of financial hardship
2Complete the application form
Read the application form carefully and fill it in completely.
Please come to the clinic in person if you need us to print the application for you.
To prevent delay, please complete the application form in full and send all requested documents. We will not process incomplete applications.
3Send the referral
Mail, fax or bring the completed form to the BC Women's New Beginnings Maternity Clinic.
4Post referral
We will contact patients being considered for a space in the clinic directly.
When they receive a letter that we are considering them for a spot in the clinic, we will ask them to fax or hand-deliver the following documents:
- Proof of earnings (i.e. pay stubs) for them and their partner, for all jobs held in Canada or their home country for the past 6 months
- Rent receipt or property tax statement, or notice of property assessment
- Bank account records for all accounts held by them and their partner in Canada and their home country for the past 6 months
- Credit card statements for all credit cards held by them and their partner for the past 6 months
- Revenue Canada notice of assessment for past tax year (if they worked in Canada)
- Passport ID page and attached visas (if they are not Canadian)
- Landing papers or permanent resident card
- CIC client ID # and printed application status (for all spousal sponsorship applications)
- Marriage certificate (for all spousal sponsorship applications)
We will notify them of our final decision by phone or mail.
