The Iron Infusion Service at BC Women's Hospital helps treat low iron during pregnancy.
Your pregnancy care provider may check your iron levels at different times during your pregnancy. If your iron levels are low, you may be prescribed oral medication. If the medication is not effective, we can give you iron intravenously (IV).

Please review the following information before you arrive.
Location and parking: Enter BC Women's Hospital at Entrance 93 and follow sign to the registration desk located in the lobby near the Connect Café and Ultrasound area. Parking is available directly in front of Entrance 93 or at other nearby hospital entrances.
Arrival time: Please arrive promptly at 7:45 a.m. This is a time-sensitive appointment, so it is important to be punctual.
Check in: When you arrive, check in at desks 7 to 10. Your appointment is expected to last approximately four to five hours.
Clothing: Wear a short-sleeved shirt to allow for easier IV access. Also, ensure your clothing allows easy access to your abdomen so we can monitor your baby’s heart rate during the appointment.
Food and drinks: You may eat and drink as usual before your appointment. Please bring a water bottle, snacks and something to keep you comfortable during your visit (e.g., book, laptop, or tablet). Free Wi-Fi is available in the hospital.
Children: Children may attend only if accompanied by another responsible adult (not the patient). If this is not possible, please arrange childcare in advance to ensure a smooth appointment.
Appointment changes: Occasionally, appointments may need to be rescheduled or cancelled on short notice due to unexpected clinical emergencies. We appreciate your understanding.
