Maternity Urgent Care Centre

We assess and treat pregnant patients who are registered to deliver at BC Women’s Hospital, and/or have delivered at BC Women’s and are up to six weeks post-birth.
BC Women’s Hospital's Maternity Urgent Care Centre (UCC) is the province's only urgent care centre dedicated to caring for pregnant and postpartum women.

Visit the UCC if you are registered to give birth at BC Women’s and:
  • Your water has broken, or you think you are in labour
  • You are scheduled for a caesarean section at BC Women’s but go into labour early
  • You are experiencing bleeding in your 2nd or 3rd trimester
  • You are experiencing a lack of fetal movement
  • Your doctor or nurse practitioner has asked you to visit the UCC

Note: If you have an urgent obstetrical concern and are unable to come to the UCC, contact your maternity care provider immediately.

Other care services

If you are pregnant and are experiencing symptoms other than the above, please contact your family doctor and/or maternity care provider.  If you are not pregnant and require emergency care, please seek care at your nearest emergency department or call 911.

Appointment details

When you arrive, you will be seen by a triage nurse who will provide an initial assessment. Patients with life-threatening illnesses or injuries are seen first.

We appreciate how stressful a visit to the UCC may be for you. We try to see all patients as quickly as possible. If you believe that your health situation has changed while you are waiting, please tell a nurse right away. You are welcome to bring your support person and/or your doula with you.
