Incontinence is a common health problem in women and affects women's quality of life. We have a long wait list of women who are keen to resolve this problem. This is why we ask that you attend your scheduled appointments. This way more women are able to receive treatment and achieve the best results possible.
If you must cancel/reschedule, please contact the booking clerk at least 3 business days prior to your appointment.
If you do not show up to your appointment and do not call to cancel/reschedule on two occasions, we will not be able to continue to see you at our centre.
This policy applies to all appointments at BC Women's. Attendance at all appointments is important in helping us to assist you.
Prior to your first visit, we will send you a questionnaire and a bladder diary for you to complete before you come to see us. We ask you to have a urinalysis and a pelvic exam as well. At your first visit, we will review the questionnaire and get a detailed history of the problem, conduct a physical assessment and develop a treatment plan with you. This first visit lasts approximately 1.5 hours.
Together you will develop a treatment plan that may include education, biofeedback, bladder/bowel re-education and training, and pelvic floor muscle re-education. Follow-up visits will take about 30 minutes each. Most women need about eight visits, sometimes more.
