I chose to pursue a career in nursing after having studied International Relations, gaining a degree in teaching and having been a school teacher for a number of years in Vancouver. I was inspired by different nurses I knew whose roles were in research, public health and pediatric acute care nursing. Their opportunities to teach and the direct impact they had with patients and colleagues intrigued and inspired me.
I’ve loved the challenge of working in various roles including bedside registered nurse (RN), nurse clinician, clinical resource nurse, clinical nurse educator, clinical nurse coordinator, and now professional practice leader. I am constantly impressed and motivated by nurses at BC Children’s and BC Women’s, whether their role is in direct practice, education, leadership or research. I strive to work with nurses across areas to promote high standards of excellence in nursing and interprofessional collaborative practice.
