Recognized for her achievements and as a leader in research, Dr. Brotto holds a Canada Research Chair in Women’s Sexual Health. Dr. Brotto will continue to further develop research in women’s sexual health to strengthen Canada’s international competitiveness and to help train the next generation of highly skilled individuals.
Dr. Brotto, a Registered Psychologist, is also a Professor at UBC in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology. She brings a wealth of experience in women’s sexual health and psychology where she heads the UBC Sexual Health Laboratory
that focuses on clinical and behavioural research in women’s sexual health and difficulties.
Dr. Brotto has published over 100 articles and book chapters, and as an expert in her field has been invited to present at numerous events. Notably, she was also a member of the DSM-5 workgroup on Sexual and Gender Identity Disorders (2013). She is a member of a number of research associations, including the International Academy of Sex Research. You can also find her penning a monthly column for the Globe and Mail as a resident health expert in sexual health and well-being.
Dr. Brotto will lend her expertise leading a collaborative team effort in advancing women’s health research at WHRI working with UBC and our other partner universities, as well as health authorities. As Dr. Brotto familiarizes herself with this exciting new role, she welcomes feedback from stakeholders from all spheres to ensure that the WHRI remains the preeminent hub for all women's health related research in the province. To that end, she is keen to meet with interested individuals.
