Midwifery Care
The Department of Midwifery at BC Women’s Hospital & Health Centre and BC Children’s Hospital consists of registered midwives working in nine midwifery practice locations throughout the City of Vancouver.
Midwifery Model of CareMidwives are experts in normal childbearing. They provide primary care to women during pregnancy, labour, birth and the postpartum period. Their focus is on the optimum physical, emotional and psychological well-being of both mothers and their newborns. The midwifery model of care promotes the natural progression of labour and birth and encourages the appropriate use of technology.
