Hospital Care
BC Women's Hospital & Health Centre is one of Canada's largest maternity hospitals with approximately 7,000 babies born here each year. Many of our programs run in close partnership with our partners such as the BC Children's Hospital and the BC Reproductive Care Program.
VisionBC Women’s and our partners have a shared vision for better health for children, youth, and women, achieved with partners who seek and share knowledge and work together to ensure access to the best care in the best setting.
ApproachThe care you receive at BC Women's is "woman and family centred", meaning that you, your family, and the important people in your life are as welcomed and involved in your care as you wish. We will work with you as partners. We encourage you to ask questions about your care and our services and to give us feedback about the care you receive. Our aim is to support you and your family through a safe and satisfying pregnancy, birth, and postpartum (after the birth) experience. Accommodating your and your families’ religious, cultural and personal wishes is important to us. If you have specific preferences about your care, discuss these with your doctor or midwife well in advance.
Teaching and ResearchBC Women's is a major teaching and research centre for maternity studies. Students from many areas of health care, including medical students, residents, future nurses and midwives, gain experience through their work here. We hope you will consider having students involved in your care. Research plays a vital role in maternity care. Your involvement in ongoing research projects provides an opportunity to help us make pregnancy and childbirth safer and more rewarding for all mothers and their babies.
