Best Birth Clinic
A new, first-in-BC clinic at BC Women’s Hospital & Health Centre, an agency of the Provincial Health Services Authority, is helping expectant mothers and their families learn more about the childbirth options available to them. Women now have access to more support, counseling, and information to help them make the most optimal choice for childbirth. Staffed by obstetricians, the Best Birth Clinic provides free consultations to women on the risks and benefits of their different birth options. Pregnant women who are considering vaginal or cesarean birth can have their questions answered, and connect with health professionals with expertise in supporting women’s choices in maternity care.
Women can get referrals to the clinic through their midwife or doctor, or they can contact the clinic directly to find out how to make an appointment. The Best Birth clinic is a consultant clinic, and does not replace a woman’s regular prenatal medical care with her physician or midwife.
The clinic is part of a program called Power to Push, a public education campaign conceived by BC Women’s. Power to Push is a collaboration which has brought together obstetricians, midwives, family doctors, anesthetists, pediatricians, nurses, doulas, and researchers in support of women-centered care.
