Nurse Practitioner Outreach Clinics
BC Women’s Hospital & Health Centre now offers Nurse Practitioner outreach clinics. They are designed to improve access to healthcare for female youth and women in inner city communities who may not have a family doctor. Nurse Practitioners (NP) are experienced Registered Nurses with a Master’s degree in Nursing and additional advanced clinical training.
Nurse Practitioners provide basic primary health care that includes
- Diagnosis & treatment of common health problems
- Prescribing most medications
- Ordering tests & x-rays
- Referrals to other health care providers including physician specialists
Nurse Practitioners
- Connect with community resources such as existing healthcare providers, schools, and community centre program staff
- Work closely with Vancouver Native Health, Vancouver Coastal Health Authority, community health care providers/agencies and other community based organizations/services
