What is Osteoporosis?
Osteoporosis is a condition of the skeleton where bone strength is weakened and the risk of fracture is increased. A fracture may be the first sign of osteoporosis. Osteoporosis is common, affecting one in four women and one in eight men over the age of fifty; however the disease can strike at any age.
What does the Osteoporosis Program offer?
New Patient Clinic
We see people who have been diagnosed with osteoporosis or have low bone density with significant risk factors.
When you are booked for your appointment, you will be matched to a physician whose specialty is best suited to your needs. Each new patient meets with a dietitian, physiotherapist, nurse clinican, and a physician. This multidisciplinary team of healthcare professionals work together to provide lifestyle and treatment choices for each patient.
Some people will require follow-up care at our clinic, whereas others will be cared for by their family doctor.
Education Sessions
We offer a 3 hour education session which is open to anyone who would like to learn about osteoporosis. A nurse clinician, dietitian, and a physiotherapist discuss risk factors and ways to help prevent and manage osteoporosis.
You do not need a referral to attend the education session.
