What is Osteofit?
Osteofit is a unique program offering safe exercise and education for those with osteoporosis and osteopenia and those at risk of falling. It is specially designed by clinical experts for those who require a gentle strength, balance, and coordination program. Osteofit is an exercise intervention program developed in consultation with clinical specialists from BC Women's Osteoporosis Program, and osteofit instructors are registered through the British Columbia Recreation and Parks Association (BCRPA).
Osteofit is designed to improve:
- strength
- balance
- coordination
- functional ability
- independence
- quality of life
Osteofit:
- is especially safe for those with osteoporosis and osteopenia
- is medically endorsed and based on published research
- addresses the need for an accessible community program providing the link between physiotherapy and group fitness classes for those who are at risk for falls and fractures.
Participants do not need a referral and are encouraged to contact community centres directly. For more information and to find a class near you, please visit www.osteofit.org.
Our goal is to improve our participants’ ability to do day-to-day activities, increase confidence and independence, and improve their quality of life while reducing the risk of falls and fractures.
