Mission
The Oak Tree Clinic is committed to:
- Providing optimal care to any woman, child or youth living with HIV/ AIDS in B.C. Any infected partner or family member will also be provided care in the clinic.
- Providing care that is sensitive to all individuals infected with HIV irrespective of racial/ethnic origin, social/economic status, religious affiliation, lifestyle or sexual orientation.
- Improving access to medical care, support and non-directive counselling for all individuals infected with HIV in B.C., and supporting care in their own communities whenever possible.
- Encouraging people infected with HIV, their families and/or caregivers to maximize their involvement in their health care needs.
- Providing medical care and promoting physical, mental, social and economic well-being of people infected with HIV.
- Providing psychosocial support and non-directive counselling for people infected with HIV/AIDS, their families and care givers.
- Educating people infected with HIV, their families and caregivers, health care and allied professionals and the public regarding HIV/AIDS issues.
- Fostering and participating in well designed clinical and multidisciplinary research studies, particular for women, children and youth.
- Promoting prevention strategies for sexually transmitted diseases and HIV/AIDS in all people.
Honoring and supporting the patients' right to choose all or some aspects of the services and treatments offered.
- Advocating for all people with HIV/AIDS.
- Providing leadership to combat discrimination shown to all people with HIV/AIDS, in the healthcare system, media and society.
- Responding to the needs of people infected with HIV by creating an advisory board consisting of people working in the community, people from HIV/AIDS support and advocacy groups, and people living with HIV/AIDS.
