Located in Vancouver at B.C. Women’s Hospital and Health Centre, the Aurora Centre has been providing addiction treatment services for women for over thirty years.
Aurora is the largest women’s-only treatment facility in B.C. providing both residential and day treatment services, with twenty-nine beds and space for twelve women who choose to commute daily. Aurora also conducts research on women and addictions and takes a leadership role in promoting improved addiction services for women in B.C.
Aurora provides a treatment experience within an atmosphere of safety, trust and respect. Programs are grounded in the belief that with the assistance of expert, caring professionals, and the mutual support of fellow participants, women can and do recover from the harms associated with misuse of alcohol, tobacco and other drugs. Aurora helps women learn healthier ways of living, how to increase their self-esteem, and to discover the power within themselves to change their lives for the better.
Former clients contacted report either complete abstinence or abstinence following a brief relapse; improved physical and emotional health, improved relationships, vocational status and spiritual awareness.
Aurora takes pride in providing the best in care for women who have substance use issues, and strives to continually evaluate and improve services by addressing clients’ evaluations of what works and the latest research regarding best practice.
It is important to know that the Aurora Centre is a tobacco-free facility. This means no use of tobacco products is permitted on the Aurora Centre property or hospital grounds.
