Contraception, or birth control, comes in many different forms and some not only help a woman avoid pregnancy, but also help prevent sexually tranmsmitted infections or diseases.
There are many contraceptive methods and it's up to you to decide which method works the best for you and your lifestyle. Visit the SexualityandU website or Health Canada's Birth Control section for comprehensive information on contraception. You may also want to discuss your options with your doctor.
If you choose to have a tubal ligation, getting your "tubes tied", then your doctor can refer you to a health care professional that performs that procedure. Most women would not be referred to BC Women's unless there were other medical circumstances that required the specialized services of our staff.
