An elective for residents who want to learn more about HIV, especially HIV in women. Oak Tree Clinic has a multidisciplinary team which includes Adult, Ob/Gyn and Pediatric physicians as well as pharmacists, nurses, Social worker, Dietitian, Addiction counselor, outreach workers, and a Psychiatrist. Residents will learn about the various Antiretrovirals, HIV/HCV co-infection management, drug interaction of ARVs and other medication, and the medical/ primary care issues they need to pay attention to when they see HIV+ patients. They may be exposed to HIV in pregnancy, in youth/children/ pregnancy and exposed but un-infected children.
Elective duration can be 2 or 4 weeks. There are no calls involved during this elective. Clinic hours are 9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m., Monday – Friday.
